Scouting America (BSA) and Cub Scouts have been utilizing the method of wearing a uniform since the beginning of Scouting. Decades of experience have shown us that uniforms have many benefits to offer our Scouts.
Equality – The uniform represents a democratic ideal of equality. Boys and girls from various cultures and/or different economic levels all wear the same uniform. This promotes a sense of cooperation as equals, unity, and inclusion amongst their piers.
Identification – The uniform helps others identify an individual as a member of the Cub Scout organization. Badges, neckerchief, and hat convey to other members which den, pack, and/or council they belong. It also helps identify our Scouts in the community promoting good citizenship and service to others.
Achievement – The uniform allows the opportunity for a Scout to displays any badges and/or awards of the accomplishments they have earned and can be immediately recognized and explained.
Commitment – Wearing a uniform is a constant reminder to each Cub Scout of their commitment to the ideals and purposes of Cub Scouting: duty to God, loyalty to country, and helpfulness to others.
For these reasons, and more, all parents and Leaders should emphasize to their Scouts the importance of wearing the correct and complete uniform class on all suitable occasions.
Cub Scout uniforms serve a dual purpose, demonstrating that a Scout is part of a team and showing individual achievement. Wearing the uniform to meetings and activities also encourages a neat appearance, and good behavior.
Pack 5 takes pride in our appearance both as individuals and as a Pack. We encourage every Cub Scout to wear either their Class A or Class B Uniform when appropriate to each Scouting event. However no Scout will ever be turned away or excluded for not wearing the right thing.
